People are talking about the Orphan Works Bill that passed in the Senate. Colleen Doran explains it best, but the poorly worded bill will require creators to pay to have their works registered in a database of copywrights, allows those infringing on a creator’s copywright to decide what “fair payment” is, and makes taking infringers to court too expensive to be plausible. Jeff Trexler at Blog@Newsarama adds commentary. Lets hope this one gets shot down because the last thing creators need, especially small press and self-published comics creators, is added costs to the way they do business.
